Literacy Volunteers of Orange / Athol
Description

Literacy Volunteers of Orange/Athol (LVOA) is a non-profit organization that has been helping adults improve their reading, writing and English speaking skills in the North Quabbin region since 1975. LVOA provides free, private, and confidential tutoring to adults and youth ages 16 and older in basic reading and writing and in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), through the use of professionally trained and supported volunteer tutors.

Students learn at their own pace and in the best way for them. We help students improve skills to, for instance, obtain a driver's license, apply for a new job, read to their children and grandchildren, read recipes, take high school equivalency exams, continue their education, and apply for citizenship. Supplemental services include math instruction and small group classes.

In addition, LVOA runs Books for Babies, a program to distribute children's books to parents, encouraging reading from infancy onward and increasing awareness of LVOA's services.
